Session 1 @ Orange

ONE THING:
Reggie Joiner
//Prodigal Generation//

Strategy must be linked to this one thing. Or you will not be sucessful.

If the truth is taught aside of this one thing, then it falls flat.

ONE THING is something that defines you, by how you respond or don’t respond

ONE THING is not:
        truth | message | strategy | community | relationships | family | leadership | creativity | Holy Spirit

The one thing that is integral in making your church distinctly different

all of these are needed but must be connected by

ONE THING:

[Telling the story of the prodigal son]
*only two people were not happy about the prodigal coming home - the older brother and the fatten calf
*to understand the point of this story you must understand why the prodigal story was told
*are you an older
*Now the tax collectors ad sinners were all gathering around to hear him. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15.1-2
*Jesus came to this earth to build a bridge to sinners.
*He unpacks two different approaches to the prodigal through the three parables.
                _Pharisees Approach | Older Brother
                _Jesus Approach | Father
*What would happen if we decided to do this ONE THING?
to treat every prodigal in the same way a father would treat his own son
Loving Fathers                                                                        Older Brother
*Loving Fathers are pre-occupied                                         *preoccupied with themselves
with whoever is missing
Andy Stanley: I never want this church to be about who we are trying to keep but instead who are we trying to reach!
//warning: if you are not preoccupied with who ever is missing you are going to be preoccupied with something | and if you are not preoccupied with whoever is missing those in organization will try to get you to be preoccupied with themselves
*older brother operate from a                                                 *older brothers from a context of shame
context of forgiveness
//warning: we live in a generation that wants to feel better about doing bad stuff. The solution is not to make them feel bad about bad stuff, but to help them feel forgiven.
*loving Fathers throw parties                                                *older brothers throw fits
//warning: if they are going to keep the heart of the prodigal when he comes home it can’t just be around him. it is community around a context of a loving father heart and approach
//warning: you want to put two characteristics that matter and that are going to build your house, put forgiveness and joy there.
*loving fathers confront                                                        * older brothers criticize loving fathers
older brother thinking
*loving fathers keep the lights                                                *older brothers close the doors and turn the lights off
on for as long as it takes

ONE THING: Treating every prodigal like a loving Father would treat his son then your process, team, creativity, articulation, doesn’t matter

podcast overload

I have 1440 mins in everyday. I usually sleep for about 420 of those. Which means I have about 7140 mins to get done everything i need to accomplish in a week. currently i listen to about 14 podcast every week. everything from:

[Mars Hill, Relevant, AskaNinja, Hillsong, and more]
so i am thinking of refocusing my podcast list. maybe cutting down a little or droping a few, and adding others? so the question is what podcast fill your 7140 mins?
